Mike Combs

Mike Combs is a graduate of Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played varsity soccer and was named CHL Player of the Year in 1991. Combs was recruited by Northern Kentucky University, playing for the Norse as a center midfielder. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and was named to NKU’s All-Academic team, and Dean’s List. In 2005 he earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Xavier University.

Combs coached at the high school level for seven years before becoming an assistant coach at Cincinnati State in 2000. He accepted a full-time position at Earlham College (NCAA Div. III) in Richmond, IN. as an assistant men’s soccer coach during the 2001 season.

In the fall of 2002, Combs returned to Cincinnati State as the head coach of the Cincinnati State men’s team. In his 13 seasons as head coach at Cincinnati State, his teams have posted a record of 211 wins, 48 losses, and 12 ties. Combs has led the Surge to 11 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference championships, three regional titles, two district titles and NJCAA National Tournament appearances in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

In those 13 seasons, the Cincinnati State program has been ranked in the top fifteen nationally and has produced 15 All-Americans. Combs was named OCCAC “Coach of the Year” in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 & 2015. Combs has also earned NJCAA Region XII “Coach of the Year” in 2010, 2012 & 2013. Since joining the (OCSA) Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association in 2012, Combs has earned “OCSA Coach of the Year” in 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015. The NSCAA named Combs as the 2013 “NJCAA – East Coach of the Year.” Combs holds a USSF “C” National Coaching License, and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Combs is also the President of Madeira Youth Soccer and the President of the (CHSS) Cincinnati Hills SAY Soccer league.
